Support and grants

Irish Blue Cross relies on donations from the general public to cover the cost of carrying out its work. It has mane fund-raising events throughout the year, such as Easter Raffle, the World Animal Week pen campaign, and a very popular dog in sponsored Barking Park (TM) running during the Summer. The Bark in the Park (TM) event involves 4 km of walking through some of Dublin's best parks, raffles, music, Goody bags and gifts for dogs with Best Bark, Shiniest Coat, Happiest Smile and Waggiest Tail.

Horse ambulance service

Irish Blue Cross also operates a horse ambulance service that is present in all Irish, north and south horse races. In an average year, the front line fleet of three ambulance units provides about 400 service days. Experienced staff work with veteran racecourse surgeons to help racehosts 'stop' or get injured during the race. This service is not paid from charity donations given to the Irish Blue Cross small animal portion, but is funded separately by Horse Racing Ireland and other racing organizations and a special donation of horse welfare from multiple users, horse racing and related industries. Ambulance ambulances Blue Blue Cross should also be viewed at the RDS Annual Horse Show, the International Horse Trials in Ireland, and some Point-to-Points.

The Blue Blue Cross branded horse ambulance unit is a regular sight on the streets of Ireland traveling to and from race meetings; have a standing commitment that enables them to provide three complete units at events one day, and in exceptional circumstances, using backup equipment, they can provide up to five units on a single day if needed.

In recent years the horse ambulance fleet has also provided services to the Irish film industry (when scenes involving horses in large numbers or special acts are being filmed). Sometimes (and unfortunately) Irish Blue Cross units must attend road traffic accidents involving injured horses on public roads, either in collision with vehicles or from incidents involving horses or trailers.
