International limit
When the boundary line between the United States and Canada was determined in 1819, under the Treaty of Ghent, the northeastern tip of the Horseshoe Falls was in New York, USA, flowing around the Terrapin Rock, once connected to Goat Island by a series of bridges. In 1955, the area between rocks and Goat Island was filled, creating Terrapin Point. In the early 1980s, the United States Army Corps of Engineers filled more land and built dams of distractions and retained walls to force water away from Terrapin Point. Overall, 400Ã, ft (120 m) of Horseshoe Falls is removed. Due to erosion, the fall will continue to move in relation to the future borderline.
Official national maps for Canada and the United States show that a fraction of Horseshoe Falls is located in the United States.
