Two-year career

George Washington's debut was in a girls' race for 2,000 Guineas meetings at Newmarket on May 1, 2005. He finished third behind League Winners for 5 furlong (1.006 m).

The victory was followed in the second race at the Curragh three weeks later, this time over 6 furlong (1207 m). Another win came at Group II Railway Stakes, again over 6 furlong (1207 m) at Curragh.

Group I Phoenix Stakes was next on the agenda, and George Washington won with a length of 8 from Amadeus Mozart, although it had been a bit hampered at the start.

His last race as a two-year-old was at National Stakes in September, the other Group 1, which he won with 2 lengths as a favorite odds-on favorite. Although he was declared to run at Dewhurst Stakes the following month, he was withdrawn just minutes before the race after the ground was deemed inappropriate.

For his performance, George Washington was chosen as the 2005 Cartier Award for the Colt European Two-Year Champion.

Three-year career

2,000 Guineas at Newmarket is his first appearance of the season. Aidan O'Brien attempted to win the race for the fourth time, having previously won with the King of Kings in 1998, Rock of Gibraltar in 2002, and Footstepsinthesand in 2005. "George" started as a 6/4 favorite and won, defeating the next Winner Epsom Derby Sir Percy with length 2½.

In Ireland, 2,000 Guineas, George Washington finished second, beaten 2 times by the next Group 1 champion, Araafa, who is fourth in Newmarket. The acceleration of George's trademark distribution was destroyed by severe soil conditions, and after the race it emerged that he had tore his front leg muscles, noting his loss.

Since 2,000 Guineas forms survived, the rating of "George" has been revoked, and his appearance on 2,000 Guineas officially remains the 2nd best performance by a 3-year-old player in the 2006 season, losing only because of his victory at Queen. Elizabeth II Bets Ascot.

At Mile Celebration, George Washington came third behind Caradak and Killybegs. He missed a bad break under new jockey Michael Kinane, starting 8 long behind Caradak and finishing 1 long behind him.

The day before his main seasonal target, Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, heavy rains came and 14 mm of rain fell in the Ascot racetrack. Half an hour before the race, a lot of money went in to cement his place as a favorite, and he was expelled on odds 13/8. Two pacemakers were mobilized by Ballydoyle, and an incident occurred during the race between Seamus Heffernen's horse, Ivan Denisovich and Frankie Dettori, Librarian. Under jockey Michael Kinane, George Washington scored with a long and a quarter.

Breeders.27_Cup_Classic "> Breeders' Cup Classic

The slope of the Breeders' Cup Classic at Churchill Downs was decided about 2 weeks before the event. Because George Washington has become the dominant miler, it is believed that the victory in Cup Mile Breeders will do very little for the cost of his stud. Despite being in the main territory of Danehill, the dam is Bordighera, who also pastor Grandera, a three-G1 winner. Kinane declared up.

Before the last turn, George Washington approached the leaders. He came wide to make his challenge but was hit by an eventual winner, Invasor, and lost momentum. Kinane reports that her stamina is depleted.

Despite calls from Kinane and various members of the press for 'George' to remain in training, he is formally retired and will stand on the Coolmore Irish base at a cost of EUR60,000.

Fertility issues

On March 10, 2007, it was reported that Coolmore had suspended George Washington's stud careers due to fertility problems. The decision was taken to replace him in studs with the Holy Roman Emperor, a three-year-old foal being prepared to run at 2,000 Guineas. Like George Washington, Holy Roman Emperor was initiated by Danehill and also trained by Aidan O'Brien. He is a two-year-old player in 2006 and is second favorite for Guineas before the shocking announcement about his retirement.

Back to training

On March 25, 2007, it was announced that George Washington had returned to practice at home to Aidan O'Brien. He initially entered for the Tattersalls Gold Cup in May, but returned to the racetrack finally arriving at Queen Anne Stakes at the Royal Ascot meeting at Ascot Racecourse on 19 June. He tried hard to start at the beginning of the race but eventually settled to finish fourth behind Ramonti.

The second race of 2007 came at Eclipse Stakes in Sandown Park on July 7th. He finished third, one half long and the back head of Notnowcato and the winner of the Official Derby. Authorities and George Washington ran with most of the field up away and Officially won the race with a head; Notnowcato ran alone above the rail tribune to find a better place and beat them both.

Kieran Fallon then reunited with George Washington in Group 1 Prix Du Moulin in September. The partnership ended in third with high-class Darjina and Godolphin, a high-class horse, Ramonti.

George Washington was euthanized on the track after an open fracture to the cannon bone and two sesamoid bones in the right front fetlock while running in the Breeders' Classic Cup at Monmouth Park on October 27, 2007, on a very muddy or "sloppy" trail. According to Dr. C. Wayne McIlwraith, a familiar veterinarian, George Washington has cut off all blood supplies to his ankles. All other races of the day were free of incidents.

After being withdrawn when held to the sixteenth pole, George Washington was then euthanized on the track at the request of coach Aidan O'Brien. It was the second start on the ground and the only start on the sloppy track.
