The North Union Shaker site is a historic site in Shaker Heights, Ohio. The site was founded by Shaker in 1822 and added to the National Register in 1974. The Shakers ran the mill of grain and grain from the lake that was made when they dammed Doan Creek. This community ceased to exist in 1899. All the buildings that have become part of the North Union Shaker community have been destroyed, and 280 of the original 1,000 acres are Shaker Lakes lake park, which includes pedestrian paths and the Shaker archaeological site, Shaker. Museum of History and Library.

Shaker Community

Ralph Russell convinced his family to move to the Shaker sect and set up the Union of North Union Bindings in 1822 with just over 80 people in 1,000 hectares of land donated.

In 1826, the group stemmed Doan Brook, thus creating the Lower Lakes and erecting a mill and sawmill. Then, in 1854, the community built the second dam that created the Upper Lake, and built another factory. Also called the 'Pleasure Valley of God', the colony peaked around 1850 with about 300 settlers. The Mill family was founded around 1826 to run the mill, which produced wood and grinded grains. Family Gathering was founded in the community.

When the Shaker family did celibacy, the colony faded and closed in 1889. In 1905, the land was bought by the brothers of M.J. and O.P. Van Sweringen who dreamed of Ohio's first styled park for the site. Brothers build houses, set aside land for churches and schools, and plant trees.

There are about 200 Shaker songs, hymns and national anthems made in North Union. One was written in tribute to Shaker's leader, Ann Lee, on his arrival in New York City in 1774. It was entitled, "At Ann's Landing in America."

None of the buildings of the North Union Shaker community remain.

Currently, only one "community" remains in control of the last Shaker, located in Shaker Lake Sabbathday Village in New Gloucester, Maine.
