Nevins Farm and Equine Center , also known as MSPCA at Nevins Farm and Methuen Veterinary Care and Maintenance Center at Nevins Farm , are animal shelters and the veterinary hospital in Methuen, Massachusetts is operated by the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Part of the 55 hectare (22 acre) property is devoted to Hillside Acre Animal Cemetery , a 4-hectare (1.6 acre) animal cemetery.

Nevins Farm "never reverses the animals in need" and is the only animal keeper and open animal farm in New England. According to the MSPCA, "horses, livestock, and small animal delivery, adoption, and small foster care at the center are unique in the Northeast". Located 30 miles (48 km) north of Boston in a rural area between Interstate 93 and Massachusetts Route 28, each year the center serves about 7,000 animals and is visited by about 75,000 people. This farm primarily serves Merrimack Valley and southern New Hampshire but some of its services, such as the Equine Ambulance Program described below, are international.

Histori

In 1917, Ny. Harriet Nevins donated his field to roll the grasslands in Methuen to the MSPCA so that it could be used as a hide-and-away home for unwanted or abandoned horses and animals. The donation was accompanied by a $ 5,000 will to the construction of the building and the purchase of agricultural equipment and machinery required. First known as "The Rest Home", the property was used for retired police horses and other horses working on the rocky streets of Boston. The arrangements made with the horse owners allow horses who still work the animals to spend time grazing and relaxing in the Nevins Farm farm. The general agreement is an agreement in which the horse will spin between spending a month in the field and a month in Boston working.

A shelter for small animals was added to the Methuen facility in 1924 and when motor vehicles replaced horse-drawn carriages and fewer horses worked on the streets, the role of agriculture began to change. While engagement with smaller animals has increased, Nevins Farm's concern for large animals remains an important part of its mission. In 1994, the ranch launched the Equine Ambulance Program to offer emergency rescue and transportation of deformed horses in New England and an ambulance service event involving horses around the world.

George and Connie Noble of Concord, Massachusetts donated funds for the 18,000 square foot (1,700 mr sup.) Nevins Farm adoption center building that opened in 2004. The new facility is officially known as the Noble Family of Veterinary Care and Adoption Center at Nevins Farm.

Adoption

Today, finding a suitable person to adopt an animal is the main focus of the farm. Animals available for adoption at Nevins Farm include common pets such as cats, dogs, weasels, gerbils, guinea pigs, hamsters, rats, parakeets and other small birds, rabbits, rodents, and turtles and farm animals such as chickens, ducks, geese, goats, horses, pigs, and sheep. More unusual animals are sometimes available, as well as when farms buy a barn full of new animals including miniature horses and the Nigerian Dwarf Goat from a farm in Southwick, Massachusetts.

Menurut MSPCA:

Cocker Spaniels to Siamese Cats to Thoroughbreds to Pygmy Goats... Shelter takes on many homeless shoots, as well as mixed races, and MSPCA at Nevins Farm works with other humane communities and rescue groups to help them find loving homes. If you are looking for a purely racial companion, you can find it here.

It's harder to find a home for bigger animals and according to an employee "They tend to stay a little longer in the cattle stables... It depends when the right person comes."

Summer is the busiest time of year at Nevins Farm. According to Stephen Zawistowski, executive vice president of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (a non-profit organization with no formal connection to the MSPCA), "It's the cat season... Cats tend to reproduce based on essentially, solar cycles... Good weather. more likely to survive, especially in the Northeast. "Zawistowski authorized the MSPCA staff at Nevins Farm for being able to handle excessive burdens while sacrificing both animal health and safety.

Funeral

The Hillside Acre Animal Cemetery is a pet cemetery that occupies four hectares (1.6 ha) of landscapes. The cemetery serves as a resting place of more than 18,000 "beloved animal friends" as well as a number of military dogs.

The funeral offers animals allowing customers to erect marble or granite tombstones for their deceased animals after burial and provide enduring care for every grave. Each protector is given a key to a locked iron fence around the cemetery. Cremation services are also available allowing customers to choose between interrupting their pet ashes in the cemetery, bringing them home into a sealed jar, or scatter them. Staff also serve as a resource for those seeking help from support groups to help them cope with the loss of their pets.
