Development
On June 3rd, 2011, EA confirmed rumors with press releases and game footage released on their Official YouTube Channel. The Sims 3 expansion package: Pets is focused around adding animals to the game. Players create their pets in the same way as the 'Create A Sim' feature. The 'Create Pet' feature allows players to customize their pets in various ways, including selecting a type and a set of properties for their pets.
Unlike in The Sims 2: Pets and The Sims: Unleashed, players can instantly control pets. Pets, unlike Sims, do not have jobs (unlike in The Sims 2: Pets) or 'lifelong wishes'. Included in the expansion package is the new city 'Appaloosa Plains'. The limited edition of The Sims 3 Pets, which must be pre-booked, includes a pet store that will not be included in the normal edition of the game. It has also been proven in patches for the game that the new creature will become a unicorn.
On June 8, 2011, Ben Bell gave pets preview presentations and demonstrations that were streamed through the EA website. He also answers questions about Expansion Packages. The demonstration contains parts of the game that have never been seen by the public. The event took place on Wednesday 8 June 2011 at 17:00 UTC. In their E3 live preview with the Pet Creator Tool, GameMarshal is able to uncover that your pet can mate and produce off-spring, although no cross-species breeds are allowed, genetics will be inherited to pet breeds, and you'll be able to assign unique characteristics for your pet.
Christopher Lennertz gave the original score for The Sims 3: Pets .

Gameplay
At Pets , there is a new town called Appaloosa Plains. The new city is equipped with every building in basic games, as well as new shops and shops. In Limited Edition, the city also features a pet shop. The expansion comes with a new rabbit hole, as well as an old rabbit hole with a new design. Every pet will have its own special needs. Sims can also play with laser pointers to play with cats. Unicorn, if found, in this game is magical and can be added to the sim household. They can set things that burn, teleport, condemn or bless the sims. They can breed with horses and horses. Sims into his teenage years can ride horses. Dogs can swim in the pool, but they can not drown, because pets can only die in old age. Users can have up to 6 pets in one household. It also extends the maximum number of sim in households 8-10.
There is a new profession for sims like "Horse Handler". Pets also come with wildlife, but they can not be added to the household. There are also ways to sims interact with their pets. Players can use their horses as a form of transportation. Sims can adopt and bathe pets. They can also bring dogs and cats around the city and sniff collectibles. These collection items can be sold or stored in a terrarium. Pets can learn skills. Cats and dogs can learn to hunt, dogs can learn to find collections, and horses can learn racing and jump. There are over a hundred breeds of dogs and cats. The player may have a poodle with short hair, or you may also have a Poodle with dots of Dalmatian. Pets can meet, fall in love and reproduce. They can try to have a puppy, a kitten, or a foal, and will also have a family tree. Players can adopt horses and train them to run in the race. The PC version will be bundled in a package with basic games as The Sims 3 Plus Pets.
Pets
There are three main pets that can be more customized in making pet mode. These pets are common cats and dogs, also, there is a new addition to the game which is a horse. In The Sims 3 Pets, there are many more pets that you can collect like birds, snakes, and rats. There are occasional raccoons that cover the dumpster and deer that can only be watched or pets. At night, there are unicorns that appear and can be invited to interact. However, this will disappear in the morning.
Create Pet
At Pets , players can create, customize, and control more than a hundred different types of cats and dogs and can breed and share them with friends. Create a Pet and Create a Sim all in one fashion, with a different background change room. Players can customize coats, shapes, patterns, and colors of pets. They can change ears, tail, muzzle, eyes, and more. Pets allows players to go further than to customize the look of their pets. Patterns and behavioral properties of pets can also be fully customized. There is also Advanced Mode for Pet Make mode. In it, users can place various layers on their pet's body, such as dots and/or lines. Pets have the same age slider introduced with Generation . There is no elevation slider for pets, because of the animated conflict in the game. Players can not only choose the dominant pattern but they can also choose the accessory pattern and both can be colored. In horses, manes and tail colors do not depend on the main color of the horse. Players can also add colorful marks on their feathers and shift them to the body of the Sims pet. The tagging is also layered and can be placed in any order.
Dog
Dogs can be obtained when made with household, or can be adopted by computer or mobile after household has been made. Sims who gave them away will also be advertising in newspapers. Sims will sometimes find wild dogs. These dogs can be friends and adopted by players. The most popular dog breeds are offered in this game. Breeds have nothing to do in the game except the appearance of offspring. The social reinforcement system is used to correct bad behavior and good praise. Getting with no penalty for bad behavior can cause the dog to take on that trait. Dogs and cats can get lice while outdoors. This makes them very uncomfortable, and they can forward it to other pets and sims. As adults, adult dogs can learn tricks, guard the house, and hunt for objects. They can be taught six tricks: sitting, sitting, playing dead, rolling, talking, and swaying. Dogs can also be taught to hunt. They can not learn on their own, but if taught, they can sniff gems, metal and bones.
Cat
Like dogs, cats can be made with households or adopted later in the game. Breeding cats is no problem in gameplay, although many popular breeds are also offered. Scolding and praising a cat will affect the traits that will develop. Like dogs, cats can also hunt. Cats can learn how to hunt using toys from animal toy boxes, unlike dogs, they can not be taught to hunt by their owners. Cats can hunt small pets. Unlike dogs, they can not sniff gems, bones, or metal, but have the ability to catch fish.
Horse
Horses can be made with households, adopted by computer or phone, or purchased from Equestrian Center. Horses usually die of old age, but fires and meteors can kill them, too. The Jockey is the only horse associated Lifetime Wish in the expansion of Pets. To achieve this, players must maximize their horseback skills and get 40,000 simoleons from your horse (racing, sales, service stud, etc.). Horse race does not affect the selling price. Horses can learn two skills - race and jump. Wild horses appear in herds (usually two or three, depending on the size of the environment) in the home environment, but not in exotic places like Champs Les Sims. Wild horses can be friends. It's easier to make friends with them if Sim has a high (hidden) Wildlife Skill. Horses are the first Sim "human" who has their own occult status, appearing also as a unicorn. Horses and unicorns can breed together, with the possibility of descendants also becoming unicorns. Unlike cats or dogs in the game, horses can be sold. The higher the horse skills and the more money they get, the race means the more money they can sell. Old horses can be sold. Horses can ONLY be found on PC/Mac versions of the Pet Expansion Package. Also, horses can be bred at the Equestrian Center.
Other Animals
Players can find other pets, such as birds or snakes. These pets will not do as much as other pets, however, and will only decorate your home with a cage.
Appaloosa Plains
Appaloosa Plains is the new city name in The Sims 3: Pets . It is set to become a ranch-style city with farmland and new barn-style goods in Build and Buy mode. This new location is located in a beautiful Midwestern ranch town nestled among lush green hills where players can let their dogs and cats roam the park or spend time riding horses at the riding center. Players will be able to build their own stability at home. There is a new version of grocery stores, hospitals, theaters, bistros, stadiums, schools, spas, horseback riding centers, cat gyms and parks. There is also a small Dive Bar, but requires a Late Night expansion package. Appaloosa Plains is a cowboy ranch town in the Midwest of the United States on the edge of a highway, and named after the Appaloosa horse type. In the suburbs can be found skeletons of dinosaurs where dogs can collect bones and search for treasure.
At one point, Appaloosa Plains is a sleepy ranch town, its only claim to be a well-known tourist attraction that attracts passersby. However, the recent influx of cities has transformed the area into a busy activity center. They continue to arrive with their Simoleons pile, retrofitting the city with modern amenities while vigorously believing that they have earned their own share of the country's paradise. Clashes between the old and the new are clearly visible, with some dead parents clinging to the remaining remnants of life as they come to know. Will the city unite in a new era of prosperity, or will the generation clash leave a clear line drawn in the sand?
Pet Traits
Like Sims, players can choose a character for their pets. However, unlike regular Sims, players can only choose up to 3. Sims can train their pet behavior through pets performing actions related to their nature or praise/scold them. If pets have been trained well enough they can develop a "trained" trait. The difference between a regular pet character is a green box highlighted around the properties icon. Trained characters can be lost if Sim trains their pets with the opposite behavior. It is possible for pets to have more than 5 traits. Because Horses are not featured in console versions, all pet properties exclusive to horses will not be available on console versions. Pets created in Create Pet can have up to 3 characters. If players buy a gift of Attitude Adjustment Lifetime they can add 2 more characters, where the total number of characters is 5. If pets with more than 5 characters move to another world, they will lose all their "trained" traits. Only the first 5 characters in the pet biodata list will remain.
Reception
Once released in North America, PC and Mac versions of The Sims 3: Pets got positive reviews, with the IGN rating of games 7.5/10. The console version (360, PS3) also got similar scores, with IGN giving it a 7/10 rating.
There are also some user-generated mod-related issues that stop working properly on the expansion pack. This has been attributed to developers turning to home animation engines from the Granny 3D toolkit they used in previous versions of The Sims 3 . There are also some issues related to interruptions in the game. Some are reported, the problem of creating pets, problems involving graphs, and frequent collisions. The crash problem is not helped by no log file to trace the cause of the crash that makes the player randomly and blindly apply frequently failed fixes.
