Activity
Stolen Horse
The organization is primarily seeking help to search for stolen and missing horse. According to statistics, thousands of horses are stolen every year in the United States.
Horses are an easy source of cash for thieves. They can be quickly sold at the sale, making it difficult to track thieves. Horses in poorly supervised areas are at highest risk. Horses can also be stolen through civil theft such as bad rent, family or friend disputes, or through divorce. Once stolen, the horses could end up with a massacre, resale at auction, or end up on horseback. The more often they are resold, the harder it is to find the stolen horse. Thieves are only interested in short-term profits and do not care about where the horse ends.
Stolen tactics and footage
Stolen Horse International also helps its owners find stolen equipment including nails and trailers. Tactics are usually difficult to trace, especially if not carved with some identification numbers. Stolen tactics are usually resold at auction (including online auctions like E-Bay), feed stores and trawlers, or in pawnshops. Organizations like SHI help restore tactics by sending notices to thousands of recipients.
Horse trailers are an easy target for thieves. Despite having a unique VIN and needing a title, thieves have found a way to forge titles so they can resell the trailer and not be tracked. Once the trailer has been stolen, notifications and flyers may be sent by SHI to help potential buyers know which footage was stolen.
Owner no
Stolen International Horse, Inc. also helps the owner by restoring a horse whose owner is unknown. Organization except some "civil theft" because many horses disappear this way. Such events usually occur during natural disasters such as forest fires and hurricanes. They are helped by reuniting pet owners with their pets after Hurricane Katrina and many other disasters.
Education
A book entitled Horse Theft. Been There - Done That was released by Stolen Horse International, Inc., to inform horse owners about how to protect their horses from theft. The organization also travels to various expositions, clinics and groups across the United States to educate horse owners on how to prevent and deal with all lost horse situations and horse identification. Looking for justice
Stolen Horse International, Inc., also works with law enforcement personnel to help catch horse thieves, as well as search and restoration of horses. Many thieves have been arrested after the group helped restore the stolen horses.
Volunteers
The work done by Stolen Horse International, Inc., is done by thousands of volunteers who receive and distribute leaflets, usually sent electronically via e-mail or fax. Their electronic mailing list, entitled NetPosse Alert Network, is freely accessible to anyone with Internet access. Because this group is voluntary work, non-profit is important because their funding is limited.
