A equestrian or saddle horse is a horse used by horsemen installed for sport, recreation or transportation.
It is unclear exactly when the first horse was ridden because early domestication did not create a real physical change in the horse. However, there is strong indirect evidence that horses were driven by people from the Botai culture during the copper era, circa 3600-3100 BC. The earliest evidence suggests that horses were dated dated around 3,500 BC, where evidence of a horse skull found on sites in Kazakhstan indicates that they have been wearing some kind of bit. Using the 3 mm or more aspect was found on seven premolar teeth of the horse at two locations, Botai and Kozhai 1, dated to about 3500-3000 BC. It is theorized that people who animal herds first ride a horse for this purpose, bareback perhaps, and may use soft materials such as a rope or perhaps bone to create an imperfect hood and hackamore. However, the earliest definitive evidence of horses being driven comes from art and textual evidence dating from around 2000-1500 BC.
Many different types of horses and horse types are suitable for riding, and body types vary greatly depending on the job equestrianism they are asked to do and the style of the horseman.
