Keeneland Sales is the American Thoroughbred auction house in Lexington, Kentucky which was founded in 1935 as a nonprofit racing/auction company in 147 acres (0.59 km2) from farmland west of Lexington, owned by Jack O. Keene. A division of Keeneland Association, Inc., has three annual horse auctions that attract buyers from around the world:

  • January - Horse of All Times
This sale, as the name implies, features horses of all ages, including nursery stock, race age horses, and longing longings. Breeding "season" - the right to breed one horse to a particular stallion in a given year - is also sold at this auction.
  • September - Crowded
This sale, the largest annual sale in the world, has been done at various times in the fall since 1944, and permanently moved to September in 1960. Keeneland accepts all nominated horses for sale, making it's the biggest market for kids who crave the world. The format changes instituted in 2010 introduced a three-tiered format for sale that would differentiate animals by pedigree and conformation. The "Select" sessions made at the start of the sale will be formalized, recognizing the rewards for some time. Following the Select session, extended 'Book 2' (offering picker class prospects) the sales period will precede the annual open session consisting of the last half of the sale. In recent years, September sales have resulted in the winners of Kentucky Derby, Epsom Derby winners, and American Horse of the Year.
  • November - Stock of Breeding
This sale mainly features horse mains and weanlings, with some stallions, horses in training and children also offered. Stallion "share" - share ownership on a particular horse - and the season is also sold at this auction. Over the years, this has been the largest Thoroughbreds sales in the world.

Seasonal Sale of July was discontinued in 2003 and two-year-two of April in Sales Training discontinued in 2015. From 1943 to 2002, Keeneland held July's Sequel Selected Season . It is considered the most prestigious Thoroughbred sale in the world. Many champions, including 11 Kentucky Derby winners, are sold here. The sold yearlings are selected by pedigree, and must pass a physical conformation test before being allowed into the sales ring. When announcing the September Sales format change format in March 2010, Keeneland president and CEO Nick Nicholson said the sender's preference made the July sales return unlikely.
