Horseheads High School is a public institution for secondary education (grades 9-12) in the rural town of Horseheads, New York. This is a single high school for the Central Horseheads School District. Communities in the Towns and Villages of Horseheads, Big Flats, Elmira, Veterans, Breesport, Pine Valley, Erin, Millport, Lowman, Beaver Dam, Cayuta, Catlin, and parts of adjacent communities form districts. Electives, Bupati, classes with Corning Community College), and some AP courses offered by the school. Students also have the option of joining vocational courses through The Greater Southern Tier Board of Cooperative Educational Services (GST BOCES).

The school is accredited with the State Council of New York. Registration for the 2009-10 school year is 1,379. The district has an estimated population of 25,000, and covers about 143 square miles (370 km 2 ). The school is also home to New York State teacher in 2009, Vickie Mike, who is a Spanish teacher at the school.

Campus
The two-storey red brick complex was built in the 1950s with the addition built in the 1960s. It consists of two wings (north and south) connected by a link. Department of science, mathematics, and music together with cafeteria, swimming pool, library, main office and guidance, auditorium, and gym are located in the north wing. The humanities department, along with another gym, is located in the south wing. Architecturally, the building is without the main facade and central location, and goes from one wing to another (a ramp that will roughly follow the perimeter of the central parking lot), not a direct route. Previously students could cross this central parking lot to enter the classroom, but this policy has been terminated due to security concerns. The middle school contains two gyms, each with a regulated-size basketball court, and space for about 500 people. The middle school also contains weight chambers with aerobic, cardiovascular, and free collection of equipment. The 25-yard pool rules are also inside Horseheads High School. These are used by various groups, and are open to the public at various dates and times. Adjacent to high school, is an outdoor athletic facility. Right behind the school, bordered by Interstate 86 and Norfolk Southern Railway, is a premier complex for football and lacrosse, and can accommodate up to three areas and large areas for practice. The football and baseball complexes, bordered by bus access ramps, and youth baseball field. The basketball game is held at the Horseheads Middle School gym because it is much larger.
The Secondary School also has a field house with a large central area for volleyball, soccer, basketball, etc., indoor small tracks, and indoor/outdoor golf chipping and placing an area designed by Joe Sindelar (father of PGA golfer Joey Sindelar) and is funded by grants from the First Tee Program and the LPGA.
Academics
Horseheads High School is one of Upstate New York's best public schools, with students continuing to leading universities, including Princeton University, Duke University, University of Pennsylvania, Syracuse University, Cornell University, University of Notre Dame, Amherst College, United States Naval Academy , George Mason University, Ohio State University, and more. Since 2007, schools have had students accepted in five of the top ten national universities, by 2013 US. News and World Report magazine figures (Harvard University, Princeton University, Columbia University, Duke University, and University of Pennsylvania). The school is also awarded the honors Course Course, which is only given to 425 schools in North America, and 25 in New York State.
The Horseheads Central School District is entirely crowned as one of the 100 best school districts in the United States for music education. The program has worked with guest conductors and composers such as Douglas Akey, Frank Ticheli, Andrew Boysen, David Holsinger, Chris Tucker, and Timothy Mahr.
