Escalado is a horse racing game made in the United Kingdom where a horse race model, originally made of lead, will run across the long racetrack to the finish line at the end of the other. The horses will move across the race track by using a mechanical hand crank that thrills the entire track randomly in such a way that it will simulate a direct race event.
Escalado was discovered and patented in 1928 by Swiss inventor Arthur Gueydan and produced by the British-based toy company Chad Valley.

Game details
The game is played by at least two players, one of which must rotate the hand crank that moves the game pieces along the track. Players place bets of whatever fashion they like from their predictions which of some typical colored horses will cross the finish line first.
Originally, the game was released with a set of five colored horses made of lead, a track of green cloth cloth, and a mechanically vibrating hand crank. The final version of the game holds a total of eight colored horses made of non-toxic (and more recently, plastic) metal and yellow writing on the tracks of race horses to navigate.

History
On August 24, 1928, the Swiss inventor and painter applying for a British patent was "The Device Concept for Applying Progressive Moves to Articles and Applies in Toys, Game Equipment, and Other Objects". A month later, on September 22, 1928, together with Chad Valley Company Limited filed another patent application for "New Apparatus or Enhancement to Play a Racing Game".
In May 1929, Toy Trader magazine wrote that Escalado was "The sensational Race game that broke all records during the last three months of 1928, and which was the biggest seller of all our games this year. In March 1946, the game was reintroduced in Toy Trader magazine with long tracks and support for a total of eight horses.
Criticism
Despite its popularity at the beginning of the 20th century among children, changing the social stigma of gambling has made the game less suitable for younger viewers.
In popular culture
Game features as part of Hawksbee and Jacobs performances at Talksport Radio (UK). Listeners are invited to send the names of horses based on the main story of the week and tipler horse racing Charlie McCann provides the latest "opportunities" with Andrew McKenna giving direct comments from "courses". Roy Cropper is seen playing the game on Coronation Street on the September 13, 2015 episode after finding it at the house of his friend Cathy. He proclaimed it to be "his favorite board game of all time".
