Histori

Recent findings from the point of the San Patrice projectile at the nearby Dimond Knoll site at Cypress Creek proved human existence in the area in 7500 BC. In the early historic era, the area around Cypress is currently inhabited by Atakapa and Akokisa Indians, but they soon disappeared after the arrival of German settlers in the 1840s;

The German heritage is mainly reflected in the names of some of the main roads in the area, such as Huffmeister and Telge Roads. General Sam Houston and his Texas Army camped in the area on March 22, 1836 on a trip to Harrisburg, now in East Houston, just days before the Battle of San Jacinto.

This area remained largely rural until the early 1990s when developers began to build some planned communities. This area is often referred to as Cy-Fair or Cypress-Fairbanks, originating from when Big Cypress School and Fairbanks High School were combined in the 1930s to form the Cy-Fair High School and the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District. In March 2008, the Cypress Historical Society (CHS) was formed as a nonprofit corporation with its main mission being "... to discover, educate, promote, collect, preserve and make available to the public, historical documents and artifacts from the Cypress region". The CHS organization holds regular events aimed at exposing Cypress residents to the historical and cultural foundations upon which the region is built.
