Horse Trade Theater Group was founded in 1998 in the East Village neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City. Located at 85 East 4th Street between Second Avenue and The Bowery The three theaters in the group are Kraine Theater, Red Room and UNDER St Marks. These three theaters are the artistic home for many Off-Off Broadway theater artists involved with Horse Trade as artists and guest artists.
The informal mission of Horse Trade is to operate an independent theater group that fosters new and exciting theaters and provides communities with cheap and high-quality places run by knowledgeable and helpful people. It hosts "FRIGID New York", an annual censorship of uncensored theaters whose official mission is "to create an accessible community with multiple voices.To unite independent theater artists, by supporting them in their work in the larger theater community. support their respective talent artists while creating enduring artistic partnerships and to expose artists to work and promote them to local audiences Our biggest annual festival gives 100% of the ticket sales back to the artist. "
In 2015, the Horse Trade Theater Group /The Fire Festival This time won Obie Grant at the Obie Awards presented by the American Theater Wing.
