And M. Buck "Brannaman (born January 29, 1962) is a leading horse trainer and practitioner with a horse-handling philosophy based on the classic concept of the vaquero tradition; working with horse traits, using an understanding of how horses think and communicate to train horses to accept humans and work confidently and responsively with them. One of the goals stated by Brannaman is to make animals feel safe and secure around humans so that horses and riders can achieve true unity.

Early life and career

Brannaman was born in 1962 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, and grew up in Montana and Idaho. Brannaman for many years was a student of Ray Hunt, one of the founders of the natural horseback riding movement, and was also inspired by Tom and Bill Dorrance. Brannaman is now teaching clinics around the world. About the clinic, he has noted, "the purpose of the actual clinic is to try to get humans to understand as much as possible about their horses that I can help them understand."

Brannaman had a difficult childhood, marked by sufficient child abuse at the hands of his father, as long as he and his brother spent several years in the nursery. He sought entertainment with horses, and learned from his own experience, to see the situation from a horse's point of view. Brannaman has written:

"I've started riding horses since I was 12 years old and a bit bitten, kicked, defeated, and crushed.I've tried all the physical ways to hold my horse in an attempt to prevent myself I began to realize that everything things will get easier for me once I figure out why a horse does what he does. "

He then uses this experience in his career as a horse trainer, acknowledging in the same frightening animal fears and adversarial reactions he recalls from his own childhood:

"Abused horse is like abused children, they do not trust anyone and expect the worst, but patience, leadership, affection and assertiveness can help them overcome their past."

In recent years, he has been a motivational speaker for groups outside the horse world, often illustrating the link between animal torture and child abuse and other human beings. "For me, these principles are really about life," says Brannaman, "about living your life so you do not fight with horses, or with anyone else."

Brannaman is also a skillful trick trick, having done the rope trick on television commercial since he was six years old. For his roping ability, Brannaman also holds two places in the Guinness Book of World Records. Although Brannaman has said, "My father gave us the option of practicing roping or whipping tricks," he remains proud of his skills, offers repeat and cattle-work clinics, and remains in close contact with the historic vaquero cowboy tradition in the western United States.

Life and career recently

Brannaman is one of the main individuals who inspired the character of "Tom Booker" in Nicholas Evans novel The Horse Whisperer, and is the main horse consultant for the film of the same name. Although the book itself is a work of fiction, Evans himself said:

"Others have mistakenly claimed to be the inspiration for Tom Booker at The Horse Whisperer. The person who really inspired me was Buck Brannaman, his tender, loving skills, understanding and heart have split the clouds because of the many problems of the creature Buck is the Zen master of the horse of the world. "-Nicholas Evans

The publicity of books and films, along with Brannaman's approach to treating troubled horses and human problems with the same dose of affection, has helped promote other fields such as therapeutic horseback riding. In that context, Brannaman has noted, "Horses are so forgiving, they fill places that we are unable to fill ourselves in. They have given people new hope, new opportunities to live, a horse really wants to please you, hang out. " Brannaman lives with his wife, Mary, in Sheridan, Wyoming. She has three daughters.

A documentary film about Brannaman titled Buck , directed by Cindy Meehl, won the US Documentary Competition Audience Award at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival. It was purchased by IFC Films under their Sundance Selections label.

Further to the documentary film "Buck" series of DVDs has been produced entitled "7 Clinics" which together with previous DVD series created a comprehensive library of equestrian.
