Gameplay

Robot Unicorn Attack is a sidescrolling platform game where users control the movement of a unicorn robot in a similar way to Canabalt , a game released in 2009. The object of the game is to extend the gameplay without falling off the stage, crashing into the edge of the platform, or colliding with a crystal star (without the first dashing). Points are earned by playing time, by collecting pixies, and by destroying crystal stars by breaking through them. As the game progresses, the stage will glide faster. The jumps and lines can be chained together while the unicorn is air. The player has three lives (referred to as "wishes"), and the total score of each life count for the player's final score.

Other versions

Heavy Metal

In October 2010, Adult Swim Games released Unicorn Robot Attack: Heavy Metal, an alternate version of the game featuring a variety of visuals and music, for the iPhone, then publish it to Adultswim.com as well as on November 19, 2010. The game features the song "Battlefield" from German power metal band Blind Guardian. The game presentation is influenced by the depiction of Hell and also glam metal. It received a better score on their website than the original. In January 2011, Robot Unicorn Attack: Heavy Metal was made available on Facebook with its original partner, as a single app.

Christmas Edition

On November 23, 2010, Adult Swim released a Christmas version themed on iTunes Robot Unicorn Attack, titled Robot Unicorn Attack: Christmas Edition . The game features "Christmas Time (Do not Let the Bell End)" by The Darkness. Robot Unicorn Attack: Christmas Edition was released at Adultswim.com in November 2011, despite reports.

Evolution

Unicorn Robot Attack Evolution plays identical to the original, but after three consecutive solved stars (four in a row in Facebook version), the Unicorn Robot evolves into another robotic creature. There are also some fairies per platform. In the Facebook version, players must continue to break the star to transform into the next animal; losing stars will cause animals to return to unicorns.

Sequel

The sequel titled Robot Unicorn Attack 2 was developed by PikPok and released on iOS on April 25, 2013 and Android on July 12, 2013. This sequel extends the original template by adding new maneuvers such as "Rainbow Savior" and Gallow's Gallop. "It also introduces enemies, missions, and options to customize the appearance of your unicorn. This game also introduces the ability to fly by equipping the gameplay that can be opened in the game.Gameplay and core control remain the same as in the original browser game, but this game also adds new features. The player can collect tears that can be used to customize his character.Mission can be completed to unlock new content and capabilities. This game also adds enemies, including the giant golem. The Egyptian and medieval themed Unicorn is introduced in the update, as well as new threats from solar geyser.Visual also received changes. The Unicorn itself is much more detailed and fluid, and the background of the bell painted also has a much higher depth and detail. Recent updates introduce Celestial Unicorns, as well as new Lava courses available for purchase with real-world currency.

This is the first Robot Unicorn Attack that includes in-game purchases; players can purchase credits to upgrade their unicorns and additional voice packages. Erasure's "Always" semifinal track - which is the main part of the original game - is not part of the default package and must be purchased separately for $ 0.99. "I'll never be able to separate Always from the Unicorn Attack Robot," wrote Kieron Gillen in 2010. "I can not even imagine wanting to do such a thing. That would be like chopping off the head of the Mona Lisa. This blends with the glow of sound effects and the explosion of light and make it complete. "The song is not included with basic games because of copyright, and since Adult Swim wants the game free, it's made into an in-game purchase. Other songs by bands such as Blind Guardian, Slade, Limahl, and Corey Hart are also available for purchase.

Parody

Combining games with internet meme, Nyan Cat (involving a cat with a Pop-Tart body flying across space and leaving a rainbow trail), a parody called Nyanicorn was created that mimicked the Robot Unicorn Attack style, including gameplay.

There is also a fan-made version called "Rainbow Dash Attack", where the Reputable Robot Unicorn is replaced by Rainbow Dash, the pegasus character of the My Little Pony series: Friendship is Magic. Rainbow Dash is known for drawing rainbow trails in the middle of a flight, similar to a Unicorn Robot.

Critical reception

Ivan Williams of 1UP.com states that, "Whether it's a song constantly on the [sic] circle or a simple desire to get a better score than the millions of other gamers who play, I challenge anyone to play Robot Unicorn Attack and no games that appear in your head every now and then. "In a review of the main flash game of 2010, Eurogamer's writer Kieron Gillen said," Like a comet made of gold, glitter and lashes of Lady Gaga, The Unicorn Attack Robot encircles the Earth and fills the horizon with unbearable, glowing for the whole of 2010. It's life-changing It challenges sexuality. This involves pressing two buttons. This is undoubtedly the greatest game of all time featuring the Unicorn Robot, unless you're a metalhead who dug the sequel. "

Scott Sharkey of UGO Networks says that while "aesthetics are a good joke for a few minutes", the key point of the Unicorn Attack Robot is that "the game itself is quite addictive to last, longer, at least, until someone catches you playing and belittles you about it for the next week or so. "Neon Kelly, VideoGamer.com's VideoGamer.com Previews Editor, concludes after the play" Somehow it all ends up being highly addictive - despite the fact that the tongue of this game is heavily wedged on his cheek that it is in danger of giving damage to a permanent face.If you have not done so, I sincerely encourage you to try it. "Toby Green from The Independent wrote in a brief review that the game was "Very Enjoyable", giving it four out of five stars.

In a review of the iPhone version of the game, CNN writer Topher Kohan concluded, "Easy-to-use controls, great soundtracks, the ability to mute the sound and get useful feedback through the tidbits in this vibrant and fun game. This feels like a game you will tune on the phone, then drag to play again and again. "In twin reviews for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation by reviewers Stephanie Bendixsen (" Hex ") and Steven O'Donnell (" Bajo "), Hex finished by saying," " so I gave the score really backward from 8971. I can not wait to press Z to pursue my dreams again, "said Bajo's reviewer," I'm not sure how to print it after that. "
