Law Society (February 16, 1982 - March 2011) is an American-ridden Thoroughbred horse, and trained by the English. In a racing career that lasted from August 1984 to July 1985 he won five of his eight races and was rated among the best of his generation in Europe in both years. When he was two years old, he won Anglesey Stakes and National Stakes in Ireland before being narrowly defeated in Dewhurst stock. The following year he won Chester Vase and took second place at The Derby before recording his biggest win when he beat a strong international field in the Irish Derby. He retired from racing at the end of his three-year season and stood as a feeding horse in Ireland and Germany with some success. The Law Society died in 2011 at the age of twenty-nine.

Law Society is a very strong and beautiful brown horse with a small white star raised in Lane's End Farm in Versailles, Kentucky by William Stamps Farish III. He became a prima donna by the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner who was kicked out of Bikini Bare mare. Allegations are a successful stallion, and a powerful influence for stamina: the best winners include Miss Alleged, Shantou, Legal Case and Midway Lady. Bold Bikini won six races and has previously produced the winners of Futures Breeders' Strike Your Colors. In July 1983, the Law Society was sent as one who missed a sale at Keeneland where he bought for $ 2,700,000 by a BBA (Irish) representative acting on behalf of Stavros Niarchos. He was then sent to Europe to be trained by Vincent O'Brien at Ballydoyle.

Racing career
1984: season two years
Law Society started his racing career in his sixth furlong race at Curragh Racecourse on August 18th. He leads one half of the round of the finish and was won by two and a half longs from My Regrets and nine others. At the time, his success had scant little coverage, as attention focused on his better companion, Father Matthew, who was unsuccessful in Tyros Stakes on the same card. Two weeks after his debut victory, the Law Society was moved to class to compete with Group Three Anglesey Stakes on the same path and distance. He denied the lead from the start and was won by a length from Kamakura. At the end of September, the horse went up in class and the distance to National Stakes Group One for seven furlong at Curragh. He started his favorite odds-on against eight opponents and was won half-length from Concert Hall with Kamakura three long back in third place.
In October, the Law Society was sent to the United Kingdom for the most prestigious two-year British racing contest, Dewhurst Stakes for seven furlongs at Newmarket Racecourse. Drived by Pat Eddery, he started favorites with his main rivals emerging as winner of Milleni Local Stake Stake and winner of Prix de la Salamandre Noblequest. Law Society rose to the contest to lead a quarter of a mile finished and immediately engaged in a three-way struggle with Local Suitor and 20/1 outside Kala Dancer. Eddery struggled to keep straight favorite in the closing stages and he was beaten by Kala Dancer, with Local Suitor going to third.
1985: season three years
The Law Society did not develop in early 1985 and appeared to be less than perfect when he made his seasonal debut at Chester Vase, a test race for Epsom Derby at Chester Racecourse on 7 May. He was O'Brien's first runner in the race since Boucher went bad in 1972. The Law Society denied the advantage of half-way and trailed ahead after Miller Mate drew a straight-back injury, who would win by two and a half from Petoski.
Four weeks after his victory at Chester, the Law Society was one of fourteen colts to follow the 206th Derby at Epsom Downs Racecourse. Driven by Eddery, he started the 5/1 third favorite behind Slip Anchor and Shadeed. Law Society was in fifth place at the turn to be straight and moved into second place early in the match but did not have a chance to catch Slip Anchor, who had been out of the field after halfway. He finished second, seven long behind Slip Anchor and six away from Damister who finished third. The next race of the Law Society is the Irish Derby over a mile and a half at Curragh on 29 June. He started 15/8 international favorites including Damister, Theatrical, Triptych, Mouktar (Prix du Jockey Club winner) and Baillamont (Prix Jean Prat winner). Eddery completed the Law Society in the middle of the field but was blocked when trying to move the horse forward and forced to switch it out in a straight line. The favorites produce a powerful late run and although hanging to the right in the closing stages, it captures Theatrical within the last hundred yards and is won by half the length. After O'Brien's race commented, "The Law Society has been around since Epsom, although the faster Curragh land certainly helped."
The Law Society returned to England in July for King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot Racecourse, where he was matched with older horses for the first time and started his second favorite behind Oh So Sharp's horse. Eddery tracked down the leaders but was unable to make any significant progress in the four behind Petoski, Oh So Sharp and Rainbow Quest. The Law Society was then directed to the Phoenix Champion Stakes in September but suffered an injury to his right front leg in training and never ran again.
Assessment
In 1984, the independent Timeform organization rated 129 Military Laws, making it equivalent to two-year-olds with Kala Dancer, while the International Classification placed it second only behind the same horse. As a three-year-old Law Society, Timeform rank is 130, six pounds behind Slip Anchor. In the International Classification he is the top-rated horse of all ages trained in Ireland and the seventh highest horse in Europe behind Slip Anchor, Petoski, Rainbow Quest, Sagace, Pebbles and Shadeed.
