His natural talent with horses helped him to heal and save many abandoned animals, and despite many doubts, he remained firm on his beliefs. Over the years, his relationship with Ty, stable hands, developed and they got closer to each other. Amy faces a tough challenge in her life, especially when deciding her future: college or Heartland. Amy has a short cameo appearance in the Chestnut Hill series, also by Lauren Brooke.

Jack Bartlett - Amy and Lou's grandfather. He is a kindhearted, yet stubborn, and often helps girls with horses and acts as advisor for characters in books. Jack never forgave Tim for leaving Marion after his accident.

Samantha Louise "Lou" Fleming-Trewin - 23-year-old sister Amy. Lou arranged and run the Heartland business side after her mother's death. Amy looked at Lou; he is practical and brave, like Tim. Ty is one of Amy's closest friends in the entire series, and finally her boyfriend. She helped her through personal and professional challenges, and she often understood them when no one else could. Ty and Amy have a close relationship, and they become boyfriend & amp; girlfriend later in the series. However, they broke up when Amy went to college, but remained friends as "A Winter's Gift".

Scott Trewin - Local veterinarian for Heartland. Scott agrees with Heartland's alternative method of caring for horses. She's also Matt's brother. He married Lou and thus was Amy's brother-in-law, and Lily's step sister, Tim's daughter with Helena. She and Lou have a daughter named Holly Marion.

Soraya Duval - Amy's best friend ever since 3rd grade. She helped Amy through difficult times and, as a horse lovers, sometimes helped in Heartland and made countless journeys with Amy. During the series, he became involved with romance with Matt Trewin, and then, a boy named Anthony.

Perhaps as a result of the constant pressure and high expectations of his parents, Ashley is very competitive and hostile towards Amy and her friends.

Valerie "Val" Grant - Owner of Green Briar, Heartland rival, Val is portrayed as arrogant and arrogant. Val believed in strict discipline - for example, whips and horseback - on his horses; many of his students agree with his technique. Val considers it a waste of time to develop relationships with horses. Val his pony school to respond to orders from every rider and his horses learn to "excel in one field and complete the course to win". Val, Ted and Ashley periodically attempt to seal Heartland. Val is often the antagonist of the Heartland novel.

Timothy "Tim" Fleming - Lou and Amy's father. Tim and Amy have not seen each other since Amy was 3 years old, but their relationship evolved as the series progressed. She left Amy's mother and family after she was injured in a riding accident. The team was paralyzed in an accident; he is now in a wheelchair. After some time, Tim seems to begin to regret leaving Marion, Amy and Lou. He knows where they live and he sends a letter apologizing, to which Marion does not respond. After Mario's death, she comes to visit Lou and Amy ("Thicker Than Water") and Amy knows she's closer to her father than she thinks. She is now married to Helena and has another daughter, Lily.

Benjamin "Ben" Stillman - Aunt Ben sends her to work in Heartland. However, he realized that he wanted to focus more on his riding skills than his skills with troubled horses. He works for Nick Halliwell with Daniel. They both competed, Ben with his horse, Red, and Daniel with Storm.

Marion Bartlett-Fleming - Princess Jack, horse listener. Lou and Amy's mother and Tim's ex-wife. Heartland, and his alternative therapeutic methods, are described in the series as Marion's vision; Amy praised her knowledge of herbal remedies and training techniques to her mother. Marion died early in the series from a trailer accident when she and Amy tried to rescue an abandoned horse.

Use of Alternative and Herbal Care

Amy and the staff at Heartland are described during the series using several alternative treatment methods for horses. One of the most common is the essence of the Bach flower, which is used to treat anxiety and induce serenity. Amy also uses behavioral techniques to help anxious or tortured horses; for example, "join-up" or "hooking on", a technique used by many natural horseback riding trainers. He is also regularly seen using massage and acupressure. One of the types of body work that Amy uses is called Tellington TTouch, made by Linda Tellington-Jones. Amy uses another aspect of Tellington Method to help the horse learn to pedal safely, and learns to increase confidence in the soil and under the saddle. Amy's reference to the physical characteristics of horses to analyze the horse's personality is based on Tellington-Jones's book "Getting in TTouch: Understanding and Influencing Your Horse Personality."
