Route description

Route 54 starts at intersection with US 40/County Route 557 (CR 557) and CR 619 on the border of Buena and Buena Vista Township. Known as Buena Hammonton Street, he traveled north-northeast as a two-lane road without a path through the farm, forming the border between Buena to the west and Buena Vista Town to the east. After fully entering Buena Vista City and becoming 12th Street, the road reaches the intersection with CR 690 and makes more turns to the northeast. At this point Route 54 enters a wooded area, with some rest for residence. Upon entering Folsom, the route passes the Operation Line Asset Conrail joint before reaching to the clover junction with US 322 (Black Horse Pike). After this exchange, the road came to a crossroads with Route 73, which was signed as County Route 561 Spur. Following this intersection, Route 54 leads through a mixture of forest and farm fields upon entering Hammonton and reaches intersections with the Atlantic City Expressway. At this junction area, the route is a highway that is divided into four lanes.

Passing Atlantic City Expressway, an undivided two-lane road comes to the crossroads with CR 559. From this point, Route 54 is lined with residence and business when it comes to downtown Hammonton. The road crosses New Jersey Transit's Atlantic City Line immediately before crossing with CR 561. After CR 561, route into Bellevue Avenue and meet with the west terminal of CR 542. As the road leaves the city center, the neighborhood becomes more housing. Route 54 ends at the intersection with US 30 and US 206, where the road continues north as US 206.
