Camp Manitou-Lin, operated by YMCA, was established in 1913 as a summer camp on the edge of Old Lake Barlow. The camp is at least 160 hectares (0.65 km 2 ), and is located on the shores of Lake Barlow. There are two main parts of the camp - Day Camp and Main Camp - separated by Briggs Road. YMCA Camp Manitou-Lin is located in Middleville, Michigan, United States, about 30 miles south of Grand Rapids.

Program kamp

The camp features several camping programs for different age groups and special interests that can be divided into two main sections: Overnight Camp (including programs such as Camp Camp, Skate Camp, Horse Camp, Water Sports Camp, Gluten Free Camp, etc.) And Day Camp (including Teen Camp and Kindercamp).

During fall, winter, and spring, Camp Manitou-Lin is also active with outdoor education, family camps, rest camps, and special retreats.

The Horse Camp program is directed from the Manitou-Lin Camp Riding Center, SPIRIT Farms Riding Center. There are at least 48 horses, and 7 farm animals. All horse camps go up twice a day, once after breakfast, and once before dinner. A camper is assigned to a riding group with 6-8 people, and then to a horse in the equestrian arena, where all the rides (eg Sally Sue are in group A and ride in Bear with his group at Blue Arena).

After a week of camp (5 days), all riding groups wear a separate horse show on the day when they are picked up from the camp, which includes cooking. The horse camp also has an off-riding lesson, known as a cage lesson, where they learn colors, signs, treatments, diseases and diseases, horse parts, etc. There are three arenas: Red (largest), Blue (second largest), and Green Arena (smallest). The Red Arena is for more experienced riders, Blue Arena is for riders with some experience, and the Green Arena is for inexperienced riders.

At Horse Camp, there are at least 48 horses. The biggest horse, Rex, is the Belgian Horse Draft. There's a pair of Clydesdales: Penny and Polly. King and Queen is Belgian Draft Horses The two latest horses, are ponies named Princess and Johnny Cash. Once a week. the horses and their riders should go on the road. The camp has only one Tennessee Walking Horse, Toronado, or Tori. Most of the horses are Arab and Thoroughbreds. Most of the horses are Bays, a kind of color, which means they are all brown, with their mane and tail always black, including their marked legs.

Main camp

At Main Camp, there are 18 cabins (all named after the American Indians), Cheff Lodge (including office, camping shop, dining room, kitchen and multipurpose "Blue Room"), and one health room. The main attractions of the camp include indoor and outdoor climbing wall, rope/teambuilding course ("Monkey Village"), high rope course, A-field (grassy athletic field used for camp games), range of archery, range of rock throwing, Pioneer Cabin, one of the four platform tents in the camp (the other three are located across the street near Day Camp), a bathhouse, two designated bonfire fires with a seating bench, Liesveld Pavilion, an extensive Nature Trail, an arts and crafts building, and a center nature (which houses birds, snakes, lizards, turtles, frogs, weasels, rats, and rabbits, among other animals). The North Beach has a swimming area for overnight camping with floating F-dock and water slides, boat garage, (kayaking, canoeing, sailing, and inflatable climbing toys) South Beach has a swimming area for camping during the day).

All cabins are carpeted and include indoor bathroom/shower facilities. There are six self-contained cabins, each with their own bathroom; one double cabin (connected by attachment) with bathroom on each side; two cabins connected on both sides of the Director's office; and two quad cabins: the Northern Quad and the Southern Quad. The North Quad is accessible to people with disabilities, can accommodate 48 people, and includes one bathroom. South Quad has room for 32 people on each side of the building (total 64 people), and includes one bathroom on both sides of the building. The South Quad also has a basement with two classrooms/meeting rooms, a kitchen and two toilets.

Also found at Main Camp is Gates Chapel, a covered outdoor chapel that can accommodate over 200 guests.

Day camp

Camp Day area is located on opposite side of Briggs Rd. and is home to Camp Day and Horse Camp programs. This section of camp covers a large number of unused/undeveloped lands for camping purposes. Three of the four platform tents used for "camp-out" are located on this side of the road.

Day Camp is centered around a large covered pavilion. These buildings include toilets, offices, and storage rooms, but half of the pavilion is open for activities. The Camp Day area also includes a large fenced play area, a small chapel, a Children's Park (where campers learn about plants and insects), a football field, and a three-sided rock climbing tower with a zip line.

Values ​​and core motto

At the camp, there are five core values ​​to be followed - Awards, Honesty, Caring, Inclusion, and Responsibility. Each camper showing these five values ​​will be added by staff at the Farewell campfire with Spirit Stick to commemorate their success. Their motto is the first God, the second second, and the third.

Camp life

Campers in Manitou-Lin are treated with the experience of a traditional summer camp last night: bonfire twice a week (complete with traditional camp songs), daily chapel meetings (dramas and/or songs focusing on one of the YMCA Core Values ​​each day) - the style of eating at mealtimes, and a bit of healthy competition for the Battle for Paddle every week (awards given at the end of each week to the most enthusiastic, passionate, active cabin involved).
