Bowl of Flowers is the result of two horses belonging to Isabel Dodge Sloane. Grew up in Ms. Sloane's Brookeade Stud in Upperville, Virginia, her father was Sailor, winner of Pimlico Special in 1955, and the object was the Flower Bowl, for whom the Flower Bowl Invitation Stakes at Belmont Park were named. Bowl of Flowers is the half brother of the successful racehorse and stud Graustark and His Majesty (both by Ribot).

Racing under the banner of Ms Sloane's Brookmeade Stable, Bowl of Flowers is trained by Elliott Burch.
